Adventures in Aviation

Sometime an adventure can just be going to the movies.

Amelia, the new film based on the life and legend of Amelia Earhart is out in theaters now. Hilary Swank plays Earhart and looks remarkably similar. Richard Gere is Earhart's love interest and husband, George.

The movie is interesting but has a tendency to run slow at points. The film could have been made to be a bit more, thrilling and - yes, "adventurous." The movie is just as much a 'romance' as it is the story of a dare-devil aviatrix. I think the film would have benefited by showing more guts and glory than 'making out'and lusty behavior.

Nevertheless, it is a fun film to watch and a story worthy of being told. But Earhart is remembered (and should be remembered) for her courageous and fearless flying and being a female ground-breaker and pioneer. The rest is just frosting that makes the movie a tad bit too sugary, and unnecessary.

"The most difficult thing is the decision to act, the rest is merely tenacity. The fears are paper tigers. You can do anything you decide to do. You can act to change and control your life; and the procedure, the process is its own reward."

  1. The love of my life is a pilot, so it's surprising to me to realize that neither of us have had an interest in seeing this movie - and I'm guessing that it's because we had an "instinct" that it would be just as described by the Basecamp Staff. Thanks for saving us a few bucks; we'll go flying instead!
